John Pilger: Partner in Terrorism

In an outrageous piece of terrorist propaganda appearing on the cover of today's New Statesman, John Pilger puts the blame for the 7/7 London attacks not on the terrorists, but rather on Tony Blair:

12 Steps for AP, Maybe?

OK. Here's Arafat:

Find what strength you have to terrorize your enemy and the enemy of God. And if they want peace, then let's have peace.

The terrorist enablers over at AP explain that Arafat couldn't really have meant that. Sayeth the Associated Press:

Arafat, whom Israel accuses of supporting militant groups, did not appear to be calling for new attacks on Israel. The passage in the Quran refers to the early Muslims' wars against pagans and is frequently invoked by Islamic leaders today to encourage strength in times of conflict.

Arafat's a good man. He didn't mean it. He just gets a little angry now and again and lashes out, but it's mostly my fault. I shouldn't have made him mad by leaving all those dirty dishes in the sink. He works hard all day. He didn't mean those things he said and he definitely didn't want to hurt me that time he socked me in the eye when I embarrassed him in the Beer Bucket in front of all his friends. He was drunk and it wasn't his fault. It was my fault really. He doesn't mean the things he says. No, mama, I can't leave him... I... love... him.

Wow...someone more cynical about Arafat and the media than I am! Amazing what one learns on the web.

I blogged about this article as well and two things stood out to me. First, the AP's feeble attempt to soft-peddle Arafat ends up begging the question: if Arafat's Quranic reference to "terror" doesn't actually mean terror, then doesn't his Quranic reference to "peace" not actually mean peace?

Secondly, notice how the AP correspondent sandwiches the middle reference to "Israeli occupation" with the phrases in paragrphs 1 and 6, "Israel's establishment" and "Israel's independence?" It's a fiendishly subtle way of suggesting that Israel's very existence is the occupation.

If Arafat quoted it from the Koran, it must be OK. I wonder if AP refers to Arafat as a "terrorist" instead of a terrorist without the scare quotes.
