John Pilger: Partner in Terrorism

In an outrageous piece of terrorist propaganda appearing on the cover of today's New Statesman, John Pilger puts the blame for the 7/7 London attacks not on the terrorists, but rather on Tony Blair:

Evita! Evita! Evita!

It just hit me who Teresa Heinz Kerry reminds me of: Evita Peron. (Well, yeah, I gave it away in the title, didn't I?) Hey, she married into money and power. Power twice. How does one end up marrying two US Senators? I don't know how- ask Teresa.

It won't be easy, you'll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love after all that I've done

You won't believe me
All you will see is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressed up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you

I had to let it happen, I had to change
Couldn't stay all my life down at heel
Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun

So I chose freedom
Running around, trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it to

Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance

And as for fortune, and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired

They are illusions
They are not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me

Don't cry for me Argentina

Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance

Have I said too much?
There's nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do is look at me to know
That every word is true

Mr. O'Connell -
I interviewed you last year for U.S. 1 re: blogging and since wrote another piece about in June 03 for mediabistro.com (rather prescient now that I see what has happened with the conventions, etc). Rather late to the game, I started one on Wednesday July 26. Your comparison between Teresa and Evita is not the only one. I am actually composing alternate lyrics to the song. You can see my little entry on the same topic at
www.thinkchamps.blogspot.com. It's only a few days old, so there's not much up there yet, but I got the very same feeling as I watched the posh Mrs. Kerry standing at the podium the other night. "Don't Cry for me Pennsylvania..."

When I have finished re-writing Lloyd Webber's classic, I will let you know.

Angelina, that wasn't me you interviewed. Must have been some Brian O'Connell impostor. There is a paid writer or two with the name. They're not me.

Re Evita, I didn't think I could have been the first. After it occurred to me, it seemed too obvious for someone else not to have thought of it. I also thought of rejiggering the lyrics, but that's a lot of work, you know? Good luck with yours- do let me know when you've finished. The fact that the meters of "Argentina" and "Pennsylvania" match exactly has to mean something.
