John Pilger: Partner in Terrorism
In an outrageous piece of terrorist propaganda appearing on the cover of today's New Statesman, John Pilger puts the blame for the 7/7 London attacks not on the terrorists, but rather on Tony Blair:
American Forces Damage the Whole World
News blast from the AP:
LONDON - U.S.-led troops using the ancient Iraqi city of Babylon as a base have damaged and contaminated artifacts dating back thousands of years in one of the world's most important archaeological sites, the British Museum said Saturday.
Heavens. I'm as much for preserving ancient ruins as the next guy, but there's a stink of politics around this that doesn't seem quite right.
Lord Redesdale, an archaeologist who heads a parliamentary archaeology committee, described the report's findings as "just dreadful."
"Not only is what the American forces are doing damaging the archaeology of Iraq, it's actually damaging the cultural heritage of the whole world," he said.
If the antiquities-looting story didn't stack up well enough, in many quarters anyway, this story can serve as a backup. If you're on the left apparently it's better that living Shi'ites get fed into shredders than ancient artifacts get trampled under US tanks.
And hey, isn't it the British Museum's job to steal all this stuff back to London? Why are there any antiquities left in the Third World? Someone's fallen down on the job. If the British Museum had completed its cultural theft when it had the chance, they wouldn't be griping about "US-led troops" now. Where's Indiana Jones?
